This year during Bank of Utah's Hoops for Hope, the Bank supported the Weber-Morgan Children’s Justice Center and The Family Place Utah. Each of these nonprofits received a donation of $2,500 and the checks were presented during basketball games at Weber State (Weber-Morgan Children’s Justice Center) and Utah State (The Family Place Utah).

Weber-Morgan Children's Justice Center

Bank of Utah presented a $2,500 “Hoops for Hope” check to the Weber-Morgan Children’s Justice Center on February 24th, at the Weber State University men’s basketball game against Idaho State. Bank of Utah pledged to donate one dollar for every point scored by the Wildcats in the Dee Events Center during the 2023-24 season. The Wildcats scored 1,172 this season at home, so the bank rounded up to $2,500. Hoops for Hope has become a tradition for Bank of Utah and Weber State University and the bank loves the partnership to lift others in our community.

Colby Dustin, Bank of Utah Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, presented the check to Rod Layton, Director of the Children’s Justice Center. “We greatly enjoy partnering with Weber State University for Hoops for Hope,” said Dustin. “We admire the Children’s Justice Center for the work they do to serve some of the most vulnerable children in our community,” Dustin said.

The Weber-Morgan Children’s Justice Center was established to serve children 17 years of age or younger who are victims of alleged sexual or physical abuse. The center is designed to make children feel comfortable and safe when they are meeting with investigators and team members about allegations of abuse. Services include: multi-disciplinary team investigation, forensic interviews, medical examinations, support services and professional training.

The Family Place Utah

Bank of Utah presented a $2,500 “Hoops for Hope” check to The Family Place Utah on March 9th, at the Utah State University men’s basketball game against New Mexico, the final home game of the season. Bank of Utah pledged to donate one dollar for every point scored by the Aggies in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum during the 2023-24 season. USU scored 1,231 points at home, so the bank rounded up to $2,500. Much like our connection with Weber State, Hoops for Hope has evolved into a tradition for Bank of Utah and Utah State University. We eagerly anticipate our ongoing commitment to supporting the community through this event every year.

Marissa Pope, our Credit Analyst from our Logan branch, presented the check to Dr. Sheryl Goodey, Executive Director of The Family Place Utah. Pictured in the image on the right are Dr. Sheryl Goodey (left), Marissa Pope (center), and Diana Sabau, USU Athletic Director (right).

“We’re proud to support The Family Place Utah with our ‘Hoops for Hope’ project,” said Pope. “Our Cache Valley branches also love sponsoring Utah State University athletics. With this program, we are all Aggie fans!” Pope added. “It’s exciting because we can cheer on the home team and simultaneously raise funds to help our community.”

The Family Place Utah offers fun, family-focused events in the community, as well as a variety of services such as therapy, educational workshops and the “Kid’s Place,” a free, temporary program that provides a safe, caring place for children to stay when caregivers need extra support.
