When a golfer lifts a trophy at a PGA TOUR event, the television broadcast captures the smile, the relief and the joy of a hard-earned win. Then come the hugs and handshakes with the people eager to share the moment. There’s the caddie who was there for every shot and the family members who remember early morning practice sessions. Coaches and friends, whether beside the green or watching from home, have been cheering them on long before the national spotlight arrived.

Skill and discipline help a golfer win. But the people who have supported them for years know how much it took to get there. They’ve shared in the sacrifices, offered encouragement through setbacks and celebrated the small successes along the way.

You don’t have to compete for a trophy to appreciate that kind of support. Building a business, saving for college or buying a home can take years of work, too. Having someone who understands what you’re working toward and can offer practical guidance along the way makes a difference.

Rooted in Community Banking

Bank of Utah team members then and now
Then and now: Bank of Utah’s founding in 1952 and our continuing personal approach to community banking today.

That belief has been part of Bank of Utah from the beginning. When my great-grandfather, Frank M. Browning, opened the Bank in 1952, he hired team members who knew their communities and cared about the people in them. He understood that when people and communities reached their potential, everyone benefited.

As we approach our 75th anniversary, that personal approach continues. Our team members take time to understand the people behind the accounts: their plans, their concerns and the goals they’re working toward. That understanding guides how we serve our clients and communities through:

  • Local Decisions: Decisions informed by team members who understand Utah’s communities and economic conditions.
  • Financial Tools: Banking and lending solutions that help individuals manage their money and businesses invest in their next steps.
  • Personal Access: Team members who take time to answer questions, understand clients’ plans and offer guidance.
  • Community Investment: Time, expertise and resources dedicated to local nonprofits, civic organizations and youth programs.

How the Championship Supports Our Communities

Supporting people as they pursue their goals has been part of our story since 1952. As title sponsor of the Bank of Utah Championship at Black Desert Resort, we carry that commitment forward in a big way: bringing people together through golf and uniting community investments with dedicated people to help Utah thrive.

We are immensely proud to help bring an event of this scale to Utah. It creates economic activity for local restaurants, hotels and small businesses, and the PGA TOUR has a strong tradition of giving back in the communities where it plays. For us, the championship matters as much for what happens beyond the course as for what happens on it. By connecting tournament resources with people who care, the championship creates a lasting impact long after the final round.

Lifting Up Utah’s Youth through The Policy Project

The first part of that commitment is investing directly in Utah’s future. Through our partnership with The Policy Project, we’re helping students in Teen Centers across Utah high schools gain practical tools for their financial health.

Teen Centers provide daily support for students facing difficult life circumstances. With proceeds from the championship, we’re supporting the launch of the Teen Finance Lab, a new initiative that brings practical financial education into these spaces:

  • Budgeting and Paycheck Basics: Teaching students how to understand their first paycheck, use bank accounts responsibly and establish practical budgeting habits.
  • Saving for the Future: Giving young people clear steps to set financial priorities, whether they’re saving for emergency needs, trade school, college or their first apartment.
  • Supporting Long-Term Independence: Helping students understand credit, avoid high-interest traps and develop the life skills needed to transition into adulthood with confidence.

These lessons help students feel more prepared to manage their money, avoid costly mistakes and make informed decisions as they enter adulthood. Through the Teen Finance Lab, we’re investing in knowledge they can use now and throughout their lives.

Powered by Team Members and Local Neighbors

An investment like this only works when people are willing to show up. Financial education becomes meaningful when experienced people share what they know, answer questions and make the material practical. Bank of Utah team members are preparing to lead Teen Finance Lab sessions in local high schools.

That same spirit of community involvement is on full display during tournament week, when hundreds of local volunteers give their time to make the event possible.

A Shared Pursuit for All of Utah

The tournament may last only a week, but the work it supports continues throughout the year, through local partnerships, financial education and the people who give their time to support others.

That brings us back to the circle around the golfer holding the trophy. Whether someone is celebrating a victory, opening a business or learning to manage their first paycheck, it matters to have people who care about their success.

Whatever you’re working toward, our team members are in your corner, ready to listen, understand what matters to you and help you take the next step.
