A new wave of scams is targeting Bank of Utah clients through phone calls and text messages that look like they’re coming from us, but they’re not. This tactic, called spoofing, allows scammers to fake caller ID information to appear more convincing.
What to Watch For
Spoofed calls or texts may:
- Appear to come from 801-409-5000, Bank of Utah’s official number.
- Use urgent or alarming language, such as "Your account is locked” or “Immediate action required”.
- Ask for personal or financial information.
- Request your online banking login credentials or a one-time security code.
- Include links that lead to fake websites designed to look like bankofutah.com.
- Offer help resolving an issue you didn’t know you had.
- Threaten consequences if you don’t respond right away.
What to Do
If you receive a suspicious call or message, trust your instincts and take the following steps to protect yourself:
- Hang up if something doesn’t feel right, even if the number looks familiar.
- Call us back directly at 801-409-5000 to report the call and verify any concerns. Spoofing only affects incoming calls; when you place the call yourself, you’re reaching the real Bank of Utah.
- Never share your online banking credentials or click on unexpected links.
- If you clicked a link, have your device professionally cleaned and contact us immediately.
- If you shared personal or financial information, call us right away so we can help protect your account.
We’re Taking Action
We’re actively monitoring the situation. If you have any concerns, please reach out to your Bank of Utah representative or call us directly at 801-409-5000.
